SISTER TRISH RUSH MSC, HER 100 YEARS.
Trish with her MSC Sisters
Our dear Trish (Sr. Patricia Rush) reached the grand age of 100 years last Tuesday September 24th. Her MSC Sisters and family members celebrated this milestone with her at St Catherine’s Aged Care Facility Balwyn where Trish resides. Trish along with our late Sr Marie Therese were the first Australian young women to join the MSC Sisters in 1936 and Trish is the first Australian Sister to reach 100.
After profession Trish was to spend many years at Sacred Heart Hospital Moreland where she became well known and loved obtaining many qualifications and taking on many roles in the world of nursing including the Director of Nursing and Nurse Educator.
As Trish’s story continued she was involved in many areas, just to mention a few – such as the Charismatic Renewal Movement; a year in PNG as Nurse Educator in midwifery for a group of young women at the Congregation’s Hospital in Vunapope , care of the elderly at St. Joseph’s Tower, helping El Salvadoran Refugees. In her later years she came to know the Spirit of Freedom Community at St. Augustine’s in the City and participated in their activities.
Trish and family
She moved to one of our Apartments at St. Catherine’s, and when needing more care and assistance moved then to the Hostel then onto the Nursing Home. Although now frail Trish remains the kind, gentle and loving person she has always been. She is a woman of prayer and is always a beautiful presence in our lives.
