RIP, JOHN EHLEFELDT MSC (1916-2019)

RIP, JOHN EHLEFELDT MSC  (1916-2019)

Phil Reilly has written from Treand House.

It is with sadness that we inform you that Brother John Ehlefeldt died peacefully at St Joseph’s Nursing Home this morning. May he rest in peace.

The Australian Province has appreciated John Ehlefeldt for many decades. He was the repository of so much of the anecdotal history of the Province, a great and humorous storyteller and profiler He could bring situations and characters to vivid life.

He was the senior member of the congregation by profession and age.

He was born, providentially, on the Feast of the Immaculate conception, during the third year of World War I. He made his first profession on May 8th 1935 – 84 years of vowed religious life.

He shared for 30 years, the traditional life and ministry of the MSC Brother. He was then active in the re-creation of the MSC Brother’s life after Vatican II, the first Brother member of the Provincial Council in the 1960s, involved in Formation in the early 1970s, spending many years in parish ministry at Camp Hill, Brisbane.

He enjoyed retirement and was happy to be at St Joseph’s Nursing Home in recent years.

Our sympathy to his brother, Kevin MSC, and the Ehlefeldt family.

May he rest in peace.

(There should be some wonderful stories for his vigil and his eulogy!)
