THE SABIO BROTHERS MSC, NEWS FROM THE PHILIPPINES

Many MSC have met Ray and Gene Sabio, two MSC brothers. Ray was a founder of the MSC in Korea and then Vicar Apostolic of the Marshall Islands. Gene was a member of Michael Curran’s General Administration and is now in the US.

This photo is taken with Fr. Manuel Hilario, former MSC Philippine Provincial Superior. He is the oldest Filipino MSC priest (86 years of age) residing at "Chevalier Home."

As for me now, I do enjoy my pleasant stay at the retirement house for MSC priests named CHEVALIER HOME. It is a three storey residence with facilities for the senior citizens such as: house chapel, elevator, ramp, library, fitness room, wide-screen tv room, caregiver room, therapy room with jacuzzi, dining room and kitchen.

From the Philippine government, Senior Citizens (60 years and above) myself included, receive privileges: 20% discount for all purchases such as: groceries, clothes, restaurant food, local ship / airline tickets, gasoline / diesel, car repair, prescribed and over-the-counter medicine, house appliances, etcetera. In addition, we are entitled to 2 free movies on Mondays and Tuesdays, from 10:00 AM ~ 5:00 PM. Lastly, we receive insurance from the government named "PhilHealth" which grants big discounts for hospital as well as dental care and services. In a way, old people or senior citizens are not forgotten.

50th anniversary sabio

Our dear confreres, Fr. Gene Sabio, MSC, Fr. Bob VIllanueva, MSC, Fr. Art Mateo, MSC (and Fr. Joey Mission, MSC currently in Japan) celebrated their 50th Religious Profession Anniversary as MSC.

The wonderful event began with a Eucharistic Celebration in thanksgiving to God for their vocation to religious life and to the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart; each shared their reflection about their lives as religious.

The event had been graced with the presence of the Chevalier Family and the jubilarians' family and friends.
___________
Fr. Gene serves as Pastor in St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, California. One could have an insightful game of chess with him if one so dares.

Fr. Bob, meanwhile, though already retired, actively serves in Our Lady of the Sacred Parish, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

Fr. Art generously shares his gift in music by training our formands and other choir groups. From time to time, he also guides a number of pilgrims to different religious sites.

Fr. Joey, who could not make it to the event, currently serves in our Regional House and in our migrants' welfare center in Nagoya, Japan.
