January 21st, congratulations to Brian Gallagher at 85.

Brian was a late vocation in those past days (over 20) and had studied for a Masters of Science (his first msc!). He made his profession on May 7th 1962, so 60 years professed this year. He studied at Canberra and Croydon Monasteries and was ordained in Bendigo on August 10th 1968 with his brother, Gerry, a priest of Sandhurst diocese.

After a short time teaching science at Daramalan College, Brian was Vocations Director for 6 years, then going to Boston for Spirituality Studies and Clinical Pastoral Education.  On his return, he was director of MSC students at St Paul’s National Seminary, began Siloam, a training for Spiritual Direction program (which continues today). Then superior and director of students at Croydon.

In 1983 he established the Heart of Life Centre – its 40th year this year.

Elected Provincial Superior in1992, he served two terms. He then retired to The Cliffs, Shoreham, renovating it and setting up a Retreat Centre, living there until 2019. The Retreat Centre continues today.

He had written a number of books but writing has been a special ministry in recent years, The Joy of Living the latest. Brian also completed a doctorate in theology. Currently, he is a member of the Melbourne MSC community and lives in Blackburn.
