Fr. Peter E. Campbell, MSC passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2013 at Presence Mercy Center. His presence in our community will be greatly missed.
Fr. Peter is perhaps best known for his work in retreat ministry. He received a master's in counseling psychology from Kent State University in 1975 and continued with doctoral studies in organizational psychology. While serving as the program director at the Sacred Heart Retreat and Renewal Center in Youngstown, Ohio (1969-1986), he developed a retreat program called Life's Healing Journey, which he later expanded into a three stage process for conversion and renewal. This process incorporates the spirituality of the Heart of Christ with well-founded principles of psychology, with the intent of reestablishing spiritual and emotional integrity and helping people let go of the negative impacts of hurts, losses and disappointments on their lives. In 1986, Fr. Peter was credentialed as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and in 1987, he was approved by the state of Ohio as Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). Over the years, in addition to giving Life's Healing Journey retreats, Fr. Peter participated in a variety of recovery groups.
After serving for four years as the local superior of the MSC community in Aurora, IL, Fr. Peter retired in 2010 and moved into Asbury Gardens in North Aurora. While there he achieved his dream of writing two books Life’s Healing Journey, A Path to Peace, published in Aug of 2010 and You’re Not the Person I Want You To Be: Accepting You the Way You're Able to Be, published in Dec, 2012.
