Remembering and respecting deceased MSC confreres.

Remembering and respecting deceased MSC confreres. The ministries of James Long, John McManus and Bill Clune.

Three MSC priests have 50 years anniversaries of their deaths. They had wide ministries.

james long

James Long MSC, died October 11th, 1970.  He was one of the foundation members of the Apostolic School at Douglas Park. One of his earliest ministries was establishing the mission at Alice Springs. He then served in Hindmarsh parish and parish supply. Later he worked in Camp Hill parish – and was chaplain to the Boys’ Home at Beaudesert outside Brisbane.

John McManus, died August 25th, 1970. He was the older brother of Leo McManus MSC. He was a foundation member at Downlands College, spending some time as the bursar. He was also a foundation of the member of the Croydon community, teaching the scholastics Moral Theology. After some years, became a World War II chaplain, including action in PNG. After the war, he joined the Mission staff, later moving to South Australia for parish supply, especially 16 years in the parish of Blackwood.

bill clune

Bill Clune MSC, died July 2nd, 1970. A tribute from Philip Malone MSC. There is a saying, perhaps not used so much these days, that 'one is gone but not forgotten'.

As we remember Fr Bill Clune MSC on this fiftieth anniversary of his death, I would like  to assure him he is by no means forgotten. Bill was, for me, and I believe, for our ordination class, a mentor and inspiration. A mentor through his experience, common sense and challenge as he prepared us for pastoral ministry, an inspiration as, with good humour and doggedness he dealt with what he called 'his demons' which were both physical and psychological.

Yes, Bill, there are those who do remember you - with appreciation and affection. RIP
