Chapter Day Three

Quite a wide-ranging agenda for the day.

Topics discussed: Senior Living at Kensington; Internationality of MSC in Australia; Vietnam – the present situation, presented by the superior, Danh, and the New Zealand mission by Bang.

Clare Johnson spoke of the laity of the Chevalier family. Tim Brennan spoke on some canonical issues, especially a committee for statutes.

Early in the day, nominations for Provincial were taken and the nominees spoke to their strengths and limitations. Dominic Gleeson, Stephen Hackett, Peter Hendricks, Kenji Konda, Pat Mara, Krish Mathavan, John Mulrooney, Khoi Nguyen, Kimi Vunivesilevu.

An overview of the group discussion on Internationality:
Preamble: a focus on MSC on mission in Australia rather than the Australian Province;
Aspirational: Mission without borders, Horizons expanded by our shared spirit and functional roles – listening, speaking, each other’s language of heart, community enriched by diversity.
Practical:
- preparation for those coming to Australia
- we recommend a Handbook of practical details that cater to the needs and expectations of those from a different culture. They cover a range of topics – prayer, clothing, food, health and everyday life. This handbook is for all members in the province to enable Australia to welcome the newcomers in ministry.

(A reminder that the 100th anniversary of Fr Treand’s death comes in late May.)
