Fr. Rolando Santos, C.M. provincial superior of the Lazarist Fathers (Vincentians) ,Philippines, has been appointed as Bishop of Alotau-Sideia.

The bishop-elect was born in Rizal, Philippines, in 1949 and ordained a priest in 1974.

The work in the diocese was originally undertaken by the Australian province of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.  MSC from the Papua New Guinea province joined them, so that members of both provinces are there now, with Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred, although members of other religious congregations work in the diocese.

Bishop John Doyle MSC and Bishop Des Moore MSC were the first two bishops of the diocese.
