Patrick, with his parents, John and Louise, cutting the Profession cake.

John Mulrooney MSC, Provincial Superior who received Patrick's vows, addressed his homily to Patrick:

Well, Patrick, another big step along the journey as an MSC is taken today and we are all here to pray for you and support you now and in the years ahead. The MSC involved in your formation over the years have every confidence in you and have also, dare I say, been inspired by you during those years and we look forward to the years ahead with great hope.

This promise you make today Patrick is quite remarkable - particularly in the context of a society that does not take promises very seriously.

This is a promise you have considered very carefully over the years and not on your own but with many others in your life.

It can be difficult to promise the future because we don’t know what lies before us – what challenges we will have or who we will meet. But if we make promises/vows in the context of our life’s journey from birth, through baptism, your survival of adolescence, your working as a lay missionary, to the sense of being called to the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, through the experience of knowing that you are loved by the most compassionate and merciful God, through the experience of forgiveness – then we can cope with failures , challenges and difficulties in the years ahead and not be crushed by them but find ourselves carried beyond them.

Bourges1

Fr Pierre Bally, Fr Jean Jules Chassem, Archbishop Armand Maillard, Fr Raymond Dossmann.

During the morning and afternoon, Fathers Jean Jules CHASSEM, Postulator, Raymond DOSSMANN and Pierre BALLY, Vice Postulators, prepared for the meeting with the members of the Diocesan Tribunal of Bourges’ Diocese, where God’s Servant, Jules Chevalier, had passed away.

For a better understanding of what has been done, let us sum up what has already taken place:

- The contact with Bourges’ Archbishop, Bishop Hubert BARBIER, started in December 2002, and went on from time to time over the following years. Among other things, Archbishop BARBIER had asked the metropolitan Archbishop of Tours, of which the Diocese of Bourges is a part of, the opinion of the bishops of this Ecclesiastical Province about the relevance to launch this cause. A unanimous, favourable and motivated opinion was given on the 19th October 2005 – Bishop BARBIER nominated the two theologians censors required to examine the writings of and about God’s Servant. Both started their work to be able to give their report to the Bishop of Bourges.

- 11th September 2007: end of the Episcopate of Bishop Hubert BARBIER in Bourges.
- 14th October 2007: Bishop Armand MAILLARD was installed at Bourges.
