At the 2010 National Conference in Melbourne, September 17-19, Claude Mostowik was re-elected national president of the international organisation which promotes and campaigns for peace, Pax Christi.  Claude is Director of the MSC Office for Justice and Peace, located at Erskineville in Sydney.

Outlining aspects of Pax Christi’s program for the coming years, Claude highlighted the move towards closer links with New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.  As aboriginal people in Australia are linked with the land, so the peoples of the Pacific Islands are linked with water.  Water is life-giving, a means of communication, and the connection between the different island nations.

A continuing item on the agenda is the development of a spirituality of peace.

With the perspective of the recent Australian political campaign and election and the discussions for forming government in the aftermath, Pax Christi advocates more consensual forms and processes of government, non-conflictual, moving away from reliance on an adversarial approach to decision-making.

The term for the national presidency of Pax Christi is two years.
