Also a big welcome to those young adults travelling in from other Australian states where we also mission… Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne, Hamilton, Adelaide, Canberra, Bowral, Brisbane, Darwin, Wadeye, Bathurst Island, … and of course the parishes here in Sydney who will be welcoming so many pilgrims… Randwick, Coogee, Kensington, Willoughby, Erskineville.
Missionaries of the Sacred Heart came to Australia from France in 1885.
MSC’s, Missionnaires du Sacre-Coeur, had been founded at Issoudun, Central France, in 1854 by Jules Chevalier. A mere 25 years later, few in number, with little by way of material resources, they were given charge of the vast new mission areas of Micronesia and Melanesia, [PNG & Central Pacific Islands] by Pope Leo XIII.
Australia began as a supply base for the new missions, but quite rapidly grew as a Province in its own right.
In 2008 about 180 Australian MSC Priests and Brothers work in Parishes, with Aboriginal people, in MSC Colleges, Retreat and Spirituality Centres, Media, Chaplaincies to Hospitals, Gaols and Ethnic communities, and more….
Australian MSC’s also work in PNG, Japan, Central Pacific, India, Vietnam, China and South Africa.
The MSC Mission Office is our main outreach to assist MSC and others in poorer countries, sending lay missionaries and financial assistance.
A WIDE VARIETY OF WORKS… BUT ONE MISSION: TO BE ON EARTH THE HEART OF GOD!
53 countries—over 2000 MSC working… what about you? |
